How High Should It Be?
Golden Rule for Center Position: If you’re hanging a single mirror or a group of mirrors, treat them as one unit to find the center. Divide the wall vertically into four equal parts; the center should be in the upper third section. Typically, the center of the mirror should be 57-60 inches (1.45-1.52 meters) from the floor. This height works well for most people. If the mirror is above furniture, it should be 5.91-9.84 inches (150-250 cm) above the furniture.
Example: For a Pond Mirror, which is irregular in shape, you can hang it a bit higher or lower, or even slightly tilted, depending on the desired effect. In our case, we chose a center position at 60 inches (1.52 meters) for a 60-inch Pond Mirror with dimensions W: 25.00 inches x H: 43.31 inches.
What Type of Screws to Use?
Studs: Use regular screws. To find studs, you’ll need a stud finder. This small device helps locate the wooden or metal supports behind the wall.
Drywall: Use drywall anchors. These expand when the screw is tightened, providing a secure hold. If you make a mistake and need to patch the wall, it’s relatively easy. You can fill small holes with joint compound, sand it smooth, and repaint. As long as the holes aren’t too far off, they can usually be covered by a picture or mirror.
Common Tools Needed
Ⅰ. Level: Both laser levels and simple handheld levels work well. For frequent use, a laser level like the Bosch 30 ft. Cross Line Laser Level is a good choice. It comes with a small mount and can be used with a tripod.
Ⅱ. Drill: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the drill bit size. If no specific size is mentioned, start with a smaller bit and gradually increase the size until it fits.
Ⅲ. Pencil: Use a pencil to mark the wall for positioning. If you have a template, this step can be skipped.
Ⅳ. Hammer/Wrench/Screwdriver: Choose the appropriate tool based on the type of screws or nails you’re using.
Tips for Hanging Irregular Mirrors
Pond Mirror: This type of mirror is designed to be hung in various orientations. You can experiment with different heights and angles to achieve the desired aesthetic. Since it’s irregular, minor deviations in placement won’t significantly impact the overall look.
